Another of my favorite places to vacation, wander and take photographs near the sea (Pacific Ocean) is Ilwaco which is located on Baker Bay in Pacific County, at the confluence of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean at the south end of the Long Beach Peninsula.
Fishing is a major industry and boats like these regularly cross the bar to fish the coast of Washington and Oregon. Ilwaco’s boat basin is a major home port for commercial fishermen and charter boats. Sport fishing (salmon) season runs from May to October. Like the rest of the region along the river, Ilwaco was home to the Chinookan people, who fished the Columbia River and Shoalwater Bay (later named Willapa Bay).
