Salmon fishing in the Pacific Northwest has a rich history and the December and January chum salmon runs of the Nisqually River in lower Puget Sound (Washington State) have always beckoned the hardiest of fishermen and women for a chance to hook dinner and the pure joy of being . And, although I've done it a few times while younger...I'd rather watch, take photos and then clean and cook my favorite fish than stand in cold rushing water in hip high waders. That and I'm not good enough to NOT set my hook in the person fishing only feet away as typically shown in this photograph.
I didn't notice when I made the photo as it was one of many taken that day and I shot this using a telephoto lens ...but, I love the diversity of these fisherman standing elbow to elbow doing what they all thoroughly enjoy. They might all well be in the military together as Fort Lewis is nearby.
